Fifth Guitar

on Glory Street a melody is
about to be born
it will be played on the archback guitar
she is the fifth of George's workshop
her four sisters await her arrival with jealousy
they know she will be graceful
with voluptuous curves
wooden waist like delicate lace
ebony arm
womb of rising sun
strings in the ancient style

she glows all over
joyous
opulent
George gives her the devotion
of the believer for his patron saint
he gives life to the mother of tears and laughter
his fifth and most beautiful guitar

her tunes will fly
gifting the air with her smell of sawdust and varnish
sprinkling lovers' dew
consoling the afflicted

I saw her birthed one October morning
from her body
I thought I heard an unplayed melody
where George
like another Borges
in a library of sound
carves and sands
his song of love
