Why there? She could have used the pepper tree or the Chinese elms.
The lemon tree would have worked. Just where I'd have to take it down, right above the threshold, snug against the porch light.
I found it on Easter morning. I'd seen something the day before, but I thought the wind had just scattered leaves and they'd stuck.
Got the step ladder, lifted off the precision of fern and string and twigs.

Too soon for eggs, at least.
